A Song, A Song for the Fool!

Foolishness is a much maligned (meringued?) and under-rated state.

Once a year, however, in Memphis, Tennessee, one of my dearest friends and teachers celebrates The Fool in her own special way--and you're all invited.

Summerland Grove's own Mama Dragon is known for her yearly Looney Tunes Ritual.
This year, we held the ritual in Shelby Forest, at a location affectionately known as 'the Pagan pavilion."  Our fearless and furry leader casts circle with a carrot, and we commence NOT taking ANYTHING too seriously--something Mama Dragon does daily, much to the consistency of her good health and happiness.  Pies are thrown, jokes are told, and laughter rings out in the woods.

Here are the lyrics to the song I wrote in honor of this yearly foolishness, as my sweet heart and I drove to Memphis from North Carolina last year to make it in time.

APRIL FOOL'S DAY
Copyright S. J. Tucker, 2007.  All rights reserved.  No illegal foolishness, please.

All on an April Fool's Day Sunday
Riding, riding we shall be
Homeward thru the waking spring
Clear 'cross Tennessee!

My best love was riding shotgun
Myself in the driver's seat
We went riding all day Sunday
home for our loved ones all to see.
Unplug the bed, stretch and yawn.
Felt like ash in the crack of doom,
Leaving at the crack of Nine
from a cozy North Carolina room.

All on an April Fool's Day Sunday
Riding, riding we shall be
Homeward thru the waking spring
Clear 'cross Tennessee!

Left behind the Northern snow,
fields of white, on the day before.
Off thru the frisky mountain rain,
winter storms we'll chase no more!
Tunnels, trees and mountain fog,
highway miles and a cloudy day,
Laughing streams and waterfalls,
springtime splashing all the way!

All on an April Fool's Day Sunday
Riding, riding we shall be
Homeward thru the waking spring
Clear 'cross Tennessee!

New leaves rising on the vine
and flowers simply everywhere,
never doubt the day was fine.
We rode as quickly as we dared!
April fools and flowers bold,
March is leaving like a lamb.
Knoxville, Nashville, Westward Ho!
(round the churchfolk traffic jams)

All on an April Fool's Day Sunday
Riding, riding we shall be
Homeward thru the waking spring
Clear 'cross Tennessee!

And here's our priestess at the door!
Merrily we greeted her.
Circle round for what's in store:
a pie in the face from a Minister!

All on an April Fool's Day Sunday
Riding, riding we shall be
Homeward thru the waking spring
Clear 'cross Tennessee!

All on an April Fool's Day Sunday
Riding, riding we shall be
Homeward thru the waking spring
to Memphis, Tennessee!

Carrot casts the circle round
and Rabbit rules the afternoon.
Keep your leaping summer fires--
We revel 'neath an April moon!

You can hear the song on my album, Blessings, which is downloadable through iTunes, amazon.com, and many other sources.  Happy April Fool's!

Surprises and Wisdom Make For Tasty Cake

This weekend I was flown to Seattle by a group of conspirators, to be the birthday surprise for a whole pack of delightful Aries folk.

It worked.

Somehow, the surprise stayed a surprise until the very last moment, and I think that the squeeing noises could be heard for several miles.  The kind volunteer karaoke DJ stepped aside and allowed Betsy and me to play a concert for the crowd at the party.  During our second set, Andrei gave Kevin, Betsy, Lauren (the keeper of the conspiracy) and me certificates that made us official members of the Freepeople House.  Too much love for one building.  What an amazing night!

As a side-effect of all this delightful surprise-manifesting, Alec, Betsy and I get to perform as Tricky Pixie tomorrow afternoon.  We get to play together before July?  Talk about spontaneous release of yet more positive energy into the forgiving world!  If you feel like joining us, I have the show info posted on my website, at the top of the page:  http://www.skinnywhitechick.com
You can also see the band website here.

From my dear tribe-sister Ginger's blog, on creation stories:
"I think we will find that these encrypted stories have much more to tell than can ever be imagined at the moment and that even the shape of letters forming words may take us to new levels of understanding one day.  The greatest teachers taught in parables. Even here, teachers knew that universal truth must be encoded to be preserved. It doesn’t matter if you figure it all out as long as you are completely happy and fulfilled. If you are, then you have already gotten to the place that these writings are trying to take you."

I've had so much joy in the past twenty-four hours.  Is it possible to have too much?  Is it possible that each moment of happiness experienced by any one person is ultimately union with the divine?  I think so.  And I'm grateful.
